We come into this world as two separate people
With separate hearts
Each having a purpose that emanates from our core
And when our lives intertwine
We find ourselves across from each other
And we start to contemplate
The merging of our self
And we begin to contemplate a way
To bring together two different people
That exist apart

And we judge this love
On a spectrum
That looks for the difference
And asks how much can we cope
And we begin to see our difference as

As something to change

The things of you that aren't me

I'm better having that difference around me

There's too much focus
On making things the same
Making conflict not exist
Trying to make everything so easy
But I know we can't just stand for easy
Because sometimes we have to learn
In order to grow
To deal with difference
To resolve conflict
To learn to be better people
To give space for others to exist
And if love was the easy path
Then it wouldn't be worth a goddamn thing

So when I see us walking side by side
I know it's because of a love

It took something inside
Committed to the value that we saw
And decided to help grow
While respecting the person that we love
And that things that make them be
